When you connect an iPhone to a Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 computer using a USB cable, the computer recognises the phone as a type of camera.
You can then browse the Camera Roll stored on the phone.
However, every so often Windows reports that the "camera" is empty - and when you browse the phone's directories using Windows Explorer, you find nothing there!
The Solution
It turns out, the solution in this case was pretty simple - Windows will show the phone as empty if the iPhone's screen is locked.
All you have to do - make sure the screen isn't locked with a PIN before you connect it to the computer.
