Microsoft Live Mesh

Live Mesh allows several computers to synchronise selected folders.

This is particuarly useful for system folders such as "My Pictures" and "Favorites" - it allows any computer logged in to your mesh to have the same files.

In the current system, up to 5 GB can also be synchronised to the Live Mesh Desktop. This allows you to access any of these files from any Internet browser.

Larger folders can also be synchronised, but they bypass the Live Desktop and synchronise directly with the other computers.

Live Mesh also allows you remote control of a running, connected computer from any other.

An example Live Mesh Desktop

Here is a Live Mesh, with six computers connected. Only 'Toshiba' is currently turned on. Any changes made on that computer will be synchronised to the Live Desktop. From there they will be synchronised to any of the other computers when they are next used.

Live Mesh is particuarly useful to home users with more than one computer that they reguarly use - for example, a desktop computer and a laptop. As long as both computers are on at the same time, or the folder is synchronised via Live Desktop, any files saved or changed on one computer will also appear on the other.
