Small Business Server (SBS) is designed for companies with up to 75 users.
It is based on Windows Server 2003, which provides Active Directory services, user logon, file and print services. SBS also includes;
- Exchange Server - for email management
- Internet Security and Acceleration Server - for firewall and internet proxy services
- SQL Server - for server-based database handling
- Internet Information Service - for hosting websites
- Sharepoint Server - for internal intranet sites
- Fax services
The benefit to small companies
These services can be used together to;
- Run websites that can be accessed from inside or outside the company
- Provide a single point for all internet access which can limit access to specific devices or user names
- Provide a central point for data, allowing access from any computer and centralised backup.
- Allow remote access to work computers, email and files
- Allow faxes to be sent from all connected computers (if a telephone line is provided!)
- A single place to define user names and passwords that allow login to any network computer.
- Roaming profiles allows users to log in to any computer and have their desktop, settings and documents follow them.
Our Experience
We have been installing and using SBS2003 since 2005.
If you have a network with more than five users, there is a good chance your company would benefit from the central administration and access a server gives you. |
